I was a beauty, a stray orphan until the beast took me as his hostage.
Once upon a time…
A Don by the name of Vlad Vitalli ruled New York. He’s a mafia man. The leader of one of the ruling families, La Cosa Nostra. He’s a monster. A trained killer and a cold-blooded murderer. Tall, mysterious, with icy gray eyes, and he rarely smiles. He’s a criminal. Ruthless, cold, dangerous, and is going to kill me.
I was the wrong person at the wrong time.
An innocent at the masquerade ball but I witnessed a murder. The mafia has rules: no witnesses left behind. To save my life, I made a deal with the beast. I handed myself to the cruelest man in the kingdom.
For him, It was supposed to be an easy kill. I’m an orphan raised in poverty. Just as Don Vlad was about to order the hit, I threw off my masquerade mask, revealing my face, and offered myself to him. One look and I was doomed. He took me as his hostage. His captive. He didn’t know by taking me, Dahlia Hadid, he sealed his own fate.
A Beauty So Cruel by Beena Khan is a mafia romance. It’s the first book from the «Beauty & The Beast» series.
Dahlia Hadid grew up as an orphan who went from one foster home to the other until she turned eighteen. Her life had been tough because of
the men she met but she learned how to protect herself. She didn’t have many friends and didn’t want to be alone on Valentine’s day so she had accepted to go on a day to a Masquerade Ball with a man she met at her job. He turned out to be a major sleazeball so she ran out to leave only to stumble on a murder scene. There was no escape from the men so without thinking she offered herself to Don Vlad Vitalli. Since that day
she was locked up in his mansion without knowing what would eventually happen to her. There were times Vlad was nice to her and others
where he showed his dark side. The more she learned about him the more attached she became. In Vlad’s world, weakness was a dangerous
thing and Dahlia had become his. No one touched what was his and no one betrayed him without paying the price…
The plot is loosely based on the Beauty and the Beast fairytale. It’s a dark romance with abduction, love, action, betrayal. There are a
few triggering scenes with violence and force sexual acts but other than that it’s kind of tamed with many romantic and cute moments.
It’s mostly focused on the relationship between the two main characters, their romance is a slow burn, it’s not complete until the very
end. Dahlia and Vlad were so similar. They came from different worlds but their personal lives were almost the same. Both lonely, without
loving families and they only knew cruelty. Dahlia appeared as an innocent beautiful young woman who at times turned into a warrior.
Vlad was the brooding King of the Mafia world. Dark and dangerous with a kind side only for her. I loved their chemistry and their
playful interaction. The end was one I could have never expected, I was so shocked. It’s not the ending I wanted and I hope that in the
second book it will be a better one.
All in all, this is a nice book with an interesting story that easily keeps your interest. I enjoyed reading it and I will rate it with
